Steve's Champ...

This is one of those little amps that starts off innocent enough but is such a versatile little bugger that it became somewhat of a workhorse for me. Steve's site is no longer up but it detailed his take on a "Glass Audio Magazine" article on rebuilding a silver face Fender Champ to make it a studio quality tone machine. Not overly beefy in terms of gain but at the same time if you hit it with a humbucker pickup it has a very sweet overdrive with a bit of attitude. Cleans up very well at the guitar knob, is effects friendly, and is very quiet. Cascading gains, Treble/Bass tone stack, and a Master Volume. I keep meaning to push this one a bit with another preamp stage for boost but I like the amp so much I don't want to mess with it. I've wanted to try DC heater wiring as well, just to try it, but the amp is quiet with AC wiring. It features an Ei and Electro -Harmonics preamp tubes and EH power tube and rectifier.
